Gold Wing Beetle has spread her inner wings to admire the sparkle. Her outer wings are chipped and opened, showing a look at her gold-striped abdomen. Explore traditional goldwork materials as you stitch this timeless design. Students will be guided through the tracing and tacking method of design transfer, stretching and couching of pearl purl, chipping using purl, sewing on beads and purl, applying organza and kid leather, plunging and securing metal threads, and sewing on spangles.
Design: 3 ¾” x 3” (10 cm x 7.6 cm)
Time: Three lessons, monthly August 1 – October 1, 2024; and extra assistance until November 30, 2024
Stitching Requirements: #10 beading needle; chenille needle; 6″ embroidery hoop; goldwork scissors or any other to cut the gold threads; sharp embroidery scissors; beeswax (optional)
Fabric and Threads: Satin or silk in black, red or white 10″ x 10″ (25.5cm x 25.5cm); muslin 10″ x 10″ (25.5cm x 25.5cm), pearl purl, smooth purl, bright check purl, Elizabethan twist, DMC Diamant metallic thread, sewing thread
