This course is designed to give instruction in intermediate Canvaswork embroidery skills. You will learn to use, in a creative manner, the stitches learned in the basic course, as well learning new stitches, develop skills in colour and design, use organizational skills in planning a project, begin researching information, introduce new techniques and encourage experimentation and creativity, and continue the knowledge of finishing techniques. The course extends the knowledge of Canvaswork stitches with an emphasis on the variations. Other topics explored are colour, design, designing new stitches, adapting designs to canvas, lettering, and a short introduction to mixed media work.
Prerequisite: Basic Canvaswork Course or equivalent from other recognized organizations or institutions, or as noted. Or, you may submit a minimum of three detailed slides or pictures of different pieces of your work in canvaswork, plus one unmounted piece showing a variety of stitches. The Education Director, in consultation with the Education Committee, will consider your application based on your submission.
