Description
Create a refined Hardanger placemat with this elegant, fringed design. Ideal for stitchers with some experience in counted-thread embroidery on even-weave fabric, this project focuses on traditional Hardanger techniques. The original model is worked in classic white with a touch of light aqua. You are welcome to choose colours from your own stash or keep the timeless all‐white look.
The pattern includes a complete supply list, clear instructions, helpful diagrams, and many of Carolyn Mitchell’s trusted tips for confident, successful whitework embroidery.
The stitches in the design are straight Klosters, staircase Klosters, eyelets, ships, cable stitch, reverse cable stitch, buttonhole edging, fringe edging, herringbone stitch, cutting woven bars, dove’s eyes, and square fillets. Finishing instructions are included.

Supplies: 22-count fabric: Hardanger or ariosa cut 69 x 41 cm (27 x 16 inches), pearl cotton #5 and #8, and one skein of the Caron Collection Watercolors®, if desired, #22 & #24 tapestry needles, small sharp scissors, embroidery hoop
