The Leonida Leatherdale Award (LLA) is administered by EAC/ACB on behalf of WEG. It is given for an original design or adaptation which takes the traditional art of needlework and raises it to new heights. The winners will be chosen by popular vote from specific entries to the LLA category in the EAC/ACB Members’ Exhibition at the seminar. All those attending the Members’ Exhibition will be eligible to vote.
From 2014 to 2018, and in 2020 and 2022, the LLA was not offered.
Leonida Leatherdale Award History
The Leonida Leatherdale Award was instituted by WEG in honour of the founder of the Embroiderers’ Association of Canada, Inc./Association canadienne de broderie, Inc. – Leonida Leatherdale – to celebrate the best in embroidery from the members of EAC/ACB. The symbols of the Leonida Leatherdale Award are the evergreen tree, the sun, and the horizon. These elements will constitute a perpetual theme for the physical Award regardless of how they are applied. The evergreen tree is symbolic of EAC/ACB, alive and growing; the sun signifies the members; and the horizon represents their challenges and growth.
