Celebrate the timeless artistry of Schwalm whitework through a petite pillow design that’s as functional as it is exquisite. Rooted in the traditions of the Schwalm River Valley in North-Central Germany, this project guides you through signature stitches and intricate fillings, offering a graceful introduction to one of embroidery’s most beloved regional styles.
Schwalm Hearts features stitches such as coral knots, buttonhole, and tiny chain, as well as filling stitches such as Marburg, waffle, and rose.
Design size: 2″ x 8″ (5cm x 20.25cm ) approximately
Fabric, Threads and Supplies: 2 pieces cut 6″ by 12″ of 28 or 32-count coloured linen for stitching, #16 white coton á broder (or #8 pearl cotton), #25 white coton á broder (or #12 pearl cotton), #5 pearl cotton for twisted cording, 2 pieces of material for lining, ribbon for a bow, fibre fill, 10cm (4″) wrapped hoop, #10 sharp needle, #24 tapestry needle, light-coloured sewing thread, embroidery scissors, water-soluble pen and magnifier (optional)
