INTERMEDIATE/BEGINNER || DEERFIELD
This lovely design combines several elements of Deerfield style embroidery.
Stitches: buttonhole, buttonhole wheels, chain, snail’s trail (coral knots), darning, feather, fly, French knots, New England laid stitch (Roumanian), outline or stem, herringbone, Deerfield herringbone, cross-stitch, latticework, satin stitch, spike stitch, and speckling. This will make a great chapter project.
Design size: 24 cm x 36 cm (9½” x 14¼”) approximately
Supplies: 1 piece of plain weave linen (white, ecru or light beige) for surface stitching or linen twill, cut 38cm x 45cm (15″ x 18″), Appleton’s crewel wool – 1 skein of lightest blue value; 2 skeins of a medium and dark value and 1 skein of white or saffron (or colours of your choice), stretcher bars – 38cm x 45cm (15″ x 18″), tacks or staples
