Technique Study Program: Course by Dorita Grant & Helen McCrindle
This course helps you to expand upon basic skills to become an intermediate crewel stitcher. You will develop skills in techniques, stitches, stitch variations and designing of crewel embroidery at the intermediate level, and you will form an appreciation for the historical traditions of crewel. You should be able to select appropriate fabric threads and needles; identify, stitch and diagram basic stitches and variations; search references for information; transfer designs to fabric; describe and apply colour and design principles to a self-initiated project; and clean, block and mount crewel embroidery.
Prerequisite: Basic Crewel Course or equivalent from another recognized organization or institution, or as noted. Or, you may submit a minimum of three detailed slides or pictures of different pieces of your work in crewel, plus one unmounted piece showing a variety of stitches. The Education Director, in consultation with the Education Committee, will consider your application based on your submission.
