Award Winners: 50 Years Plus One

It’s finally a reality! Photos of the EAC/ACB Members’ Exhibition winning entries have been added to the EAC/ACB website. As one of the 50th Anniversary Committee projects, many volunteers tracked down pictures, matched photos to entries, renamed files to help keep them in order, and finally uploaded them to the website galleries. The photos for the Seminar Group Project awards and the Board Challenge winners will be live soon! Many thanks to the efforts of Beryl Burnett of Winnipeg Embroiderers’ Guild, Helen Bartel of Winnipeg Embroiderers’ Guild, Shannon Johnson of Virtual Threads, Suzan Lee of Vancouver Guild of Embroiderers and Kathryn Robicheau, an Individual Member. You’ll notice that unfortunately we are missing some photos. However, we have chosen to identify the winning stitchers. If you have a photograph of any of the missing winning pieces, please send them to us. You can reach us via the contact page to find out how. The award-winning photos from the EAC/ACB Members’ Exhibition will be added to the galleries each year as they become available.
LLNA Library: Author Thomasina Beck

Librarian Natalie Dupuis shares a peek inside two of the books in the LLNA Library written by Thomasina Beck. Gardening With Silk and Gold: A History of Gardens in Embroidery was published in 1998. This book explores how gardens have been depicted in embroideries. Another of Beck’s books in the library is The Embroiderer’s Story: Needlework from the Renaissance to the Present Day (1995). This book covers the evolution of embroidery from the Renaissance and how it has been depicted in paintings over the same period.
610 of 2000± Titles

True confessions from your new librarian, Natalie The unpacking of the library is taking more than a day. In fact, it is taking many, many, many days with numerous volunteers sorting and organizing! I must have been out of my mind with ambition. Since the last update, a team of six volunteers and I have put in about 90 hours of work to perfectly alphabetize the books, identify books that need repair, conduct a meticulous, complete inventory, and manually upload every title to a lovely and modern online platform. So far, we have worked through the sections of Assisi, Banners & Collage, Beadwork, Brazilian, Canvas & Needlepoint (HUGE), Clothing & Costume, Conservation, Counted Thread General, Crewel, Cross Stitch, Darning Patterns & Kogin, Design & Colour, Pulled & Drawn Thread, and Needlework Tools and Accessories. The online platform that I am initially loading every book onto is called LibraryThing. This is the “filing cabinet” from which the titles will be taken to make a borrowing catalogue next year. In the borrowing catalogue, you will be able to see images of the books, read reviews, see page counts, and most importantly, see if a book is out on loan, request the book, and get reminders if you have borrowed a book! More coming soon! Please return all outstanding loans to the new library address so I can complete an accurate inventory.  Leonida Leatherdale Needle Arts Library, â„… Natalie Dupuis, 3461 Northcliffe Avenue, Montreal QC H4A 3K8
