Condition: Good

Description of condition:

One section at the centre top where the fabric has worn away and 2 small areas along the left edge.

Only a couple of spots have a missing stitch but you can see there was one at one time.   The last digit in the year is only half present.  A stitch or two are missing in a couple of letters.  Cannot confirm if they were stitched and missed or have deteriorated.

Description of alphabets:

2 upper and then 1 lower case.

First upper case set is larger then the second and is on 2 rows.  The second set was on 1 row and ran out of room for the “y” and ‘z” which was added to the end of the first set above it.

Lower case is all on 1 row.

I SIGh NOT FOR BEAUTY, NOR LANGUISH FOR WEALTH,

BUT GRANT ME, KIND PROVIDENCE, VIRTUE AND HEALTH

THEN RICHER THANKINGS MORE HAPPY THAN THE ( the “Y” is missing as the motif was going to be in the way, they did try try to add it but must have taken out the stitches as you can see the thread remnants of the brown thread that was being used. Also note the word “thankings” had a space between “than” and “king” that made it look like 2 words)

MY DAYS SHALL PASS SWE(Missing the remaining letters of the word and an additional work which were “sweetly and”, can see 1 more letter partially and is stitched over with a motif)  SWIFTLY AWAY

Note the missing information on the missing words, letters and the spacing in the “thanking” word was determined by finding the verse on other samplers when an internet search was done.

June was a local historian of Stouffville.  Currently no knowledge if this was her sampler or someone from the community passed it on to her.  She was a person that people would gift various items that they felt were of historical significance.
