Condition: Poor

Description of condition:

Fabric deterioration in both upper corners and bottom right corner, along the left and right side on both sides of the border,  as well as in the upper middle among the alphabet and in the verse and building.

Missing stitches in the alphabets, outer strawberry border, inner border areas around the middle sampler area, the ground in 2 areas, and in the end of the stitcher’s information.

First verse:

Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, 12th Chap of Eccl s And part of the 1st verse.

(“youth” is stitched over 2 rows and has been spelled with 2 “u”s “you” and then “uth”)

The biblical book is Ecclesiastes and the “Eccl” s is written with the s being super scripted and the word “And” being capitalized.

The full biblical verse is – Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, before the evil days come, and the years draw nigh,

Second verse:

Modesty is one of the chief ornaments of youth.

Other Information:

It is assumed that the “U.C.” After York Township means Upper Canada due to the date of the sampler.  The area was known as Upper Canada until 1841.
