Fabric deterioration – only one area in bottom hem where some fibres have separated.

Thread deterioration – some thread fading.

Partial alphabet up to letter I but the “J” and “K” look like there were stitched and then pulled out due to the agitation of the fabric that looks like the letters.

The piece is in the shape of a bookmark and may have been used as such.

Due to the size, the wool as a fibre, the thread count is in pairs to make the 28 count really 14 counts like an Aida cloth, letters either missing or missing stitches in them (the missing stitches do not appear to be thread deterioration) and the number “1” having been taken out with the purple wool fibres still on the finished piece, this looks to be completed by a very young embroiderer and likely their very first piece.
