201: Lilium Philadelphicum by Alison Cole
Lilium philadelphicum has been explicitly designed for your participation at Seminar 2024. A stumpwork botanical study in Au Ver à Soie silks features detached petals, leaves and wire work stamens. The bending of the stem into a slight S shape for Saskatchewan makes it truly a one-of-a-kind piece.

202: Porthole by Wendy Innes
Create your very own “porthole” into the ocean with this magnificent stumpwork piece worked on a silk background using silk, cotton and specialty fibres.
Students will learn to thread paint on a slip, apply it to the main design, and work a detached element with wire. Explore several forms of padding to create depth and realism and create your own sea sponge, fishnet and coral.

This interesting and fun piece is a sampler with 51 different canvas stitches (50 stitches to celebrate EAC/ACB’s 50th Anniversary and 1 to grow on – Seminar 2024 in Regina).
It is stitched on French Blue 18-count mono canvas with Rainbow Gallery Patina and DMC #5 pearl cotton.
Students with a basic to intermediate level of stitching will enjoy making this piece. When completed, students may wish to make their piece into an etui with the instructions provided.

204: Jester’s Jewels by Linda Lachance
Jester’s Jewels uses black and white oblong crosses to accentuate the various stitches in the diamond shapes. The design is a nod to the harlequin or jester.
The top medallion features very dimensional fleur de lis stitches and many different stitches in the smaller diamond shapes, including diamond Jessica, diamond waffle, Jessica star, Rhodes, oval, and single, double and triple Jessicas. Working within the elongated diamond shapes in different sizes will give students the experience of using less common stitches and variations than those traditionally used.
The decorative “dangles” are “dripping with jewels,” filled with real crystals and some specialty beads to add sparkle and interest.

Playing with papers and fabrics, the student will colour, collage, and stitch.

206: Sketching with Thread – Look to the Sky by Joyce Gill
Whether the Prairie “Big Sky” or the coastal “Sky to Sea” horizons, the miniature landscapes in this class will be an introduction to thread sketching from photos. This all-level course uses pale blue dupioni, a large palette of variegated cotton threads, and a full-colour booklet.
The student can choose between four offered photos and will learn various techniques for skies, ground, structures, water, vegetation and detailing, as well as lacing the finished piece. The goal is to inspire the student to use their photos as inspirations for new creations.

Join Deborah in stitching this delightful silk ribbon summer garden! A Garden View is a photo transfer design on congress cloth, using silk ribbon and other surface embroidery techniques to create a dimensional and layered embroidery. During class, we will discuss how to apply a photo transfer.
A Garden View is an embroidery study in perspective and the knotted stitch. There are ten knotted stitch variations, the ribbon stitch, straight stitch, and fly stitch.
