This course is dedicated to making a decorative Christmas toy ‘Magic Jester’ which has a beaded chain used to hang on a Christmas tree or decorate any space by hanging it on a doorknob, hook, lamp etc. We will get acquainted with the techniques of bead mosaic, work with chenille thread and beads of different sizes, decorate the toy with various fabrics (such as organza, ribbons, felt) and make decorative lace, all to assemble the product.

Techniques and Stitches used:

Size of Design Area: The height of the toy is 3.75” (not including the bow) x 3.15” wide

Ground Fabric: cotton, cut approximately 8″ x 8″

Threads used in the project: muline, fila a gant, modeira, C-LON AA

Skill Level: All levels

Text:  The text is approximately 50 pages

Kit Contents: Silk shantung, cotton fabric for backing, polyester organza, Anchor and DMC stranded cotton thread, Japan threads, pearl cotton, beads, felt and needles

Time:  Two (2) Months: five (5) lessons weekly; May 6 – June 3 and one (1) extra month for assistance.

Students will supply:  12″ x 12″Evertite frame or stretcher bars, OR 8 1/2″ embroidery hoop; cream colored sewing thread; masking tape; needle threader; scissors for cutting paper and felt; 6″ ruler with both inches and centimeters; mechanical pencil; Pigma pen or similar; needle puller (optional); needle threader for small, fine needles (optional); iron and ironing mat/board; usual stitching supplies. Magnification is highly recommended.
