Inspired by King Tutankhamun’s wonderful blue-and-gold mask, Cleopatra’s Cat is intended to challenge the canvaswork stitcher.  This “cat with attitude” is a patchwork sampler of 46 laid fillings and composite stitches with lots of diagonal stitching and compensation.

Size of Design Area:  14″ x 10″ (35 x 25 cm) on 18-count canvas or 10.5″ x 7″ (27 x 18 cm) on Congress cloth

Ground Fabric:  18-count mono canvas, cut 20″ x 16″ (50 x 40 cm) or Congress cloth, cut 16″ x 12″ (40 x 30 cm)

Thread:   DMC® Medici, Elegance™, Splendor™, Gloriana™ floss, Gloriana™ Lorikeet, Gumnuts “Blossoms, Kreinik braid, ThreadworX (or Needle Necessities if you still have some), Sampler Threads, Soie d’Alger, Trebizond

Colours used:  Student’s choice.  Models were stitched in middle to dark values of blue and gold threads and middle-to-dark values of gray, red and silver threads.

Skill Level:  Advanced Intermediate  (The student must be comfortable stitching on the diagonal, as well as working and compensating irregularly-shaped areas.)

Text:  The text is 131 pages, available only as mailed hardcopy.

Time:  12 months consisting of 7 working lessons (6 weeks each) plus introductory and final sessions (3 weeks) for a total of 11 months and 1 month for extra assistance

Supplies to purchase:  Approximately $100 CAD for supplies used in the model, or this project can be stitched with materials from your stash.
